CHANTECLER - CAPRI - Founded in 1947 - Jewels designed to evoke passion, joyfulness and infinite joie de vivre from the first time they are worn and all the times to follow.

Capri is where everything started for us. Every day its energy, colors and scents give life to something extraordinary and unique, which we lovingly turn into jewels. Chantecler wouldn’t be the same company it is today if Capri, as well as being the focal point of our equilibrium, were not also at the center of a world that marks time and influences styles. Our Island has from time immemorial been a meeting place for influential people; cover story divas and prominent intellectuals bestowing the international appeal that makes it so special and that has given us the privilege to grow there.

The friendship between Pietro Capuano and Salvatore Aprea created a partnership that throughout the decades to come maintained the charm of those magical years intact.

Chantecler was founded in 1947 and in the same year opened their first Boutique in Capri. Thanks to devoted world famous clients over the years, the two jewelers’ fame stretched beyond the shores of the Island.

In 1994 Chantecler chose Cortina, the pearl of the Dolomites, to open their second Boutique. Openings in Milan followed in 2002, in Tokyo in 2007, in Astana, Kazakistan in 2012 and in Hong Kong in 2013. Finally, due to expanding distribution, the legendary Chantecler is today one of the most dynamic entrepreneurial experience, headed by Salvatore Aprea’s heirs, Maria Elena, Costanza and Gabriele with his wife Teresa; they received their precious heritage and nourished it with passion, intelligence, vision but most of all with love and respect for the values within this extraordinary brand.

We strive for our jewels to reflect timeless, yet modern beauty.

One of the creations that so marked the history of Chantecler dates back to 1944, when Pietro Capuano and Salvatore Aprea took inspiration from the legend of St. Michael and did forge a bronze bell to donate as a lucky charm and a symbol of peace to Franklin Delano Roosevelt, then president of the United States. The Campanella collection has its roots in this event, and has become an iconic symbol of our brand to which we are very fond of.

"We are children of Capri and have been lucky enough to grow up within a family that has made aesthetic sense a value, allowing us to succeed in fulfilling this very objective. Thanks to the craftsmanship secrets handed down from our father and safeguarded with pride, our values are mirrored in each Chantecler creation".

EMILIO PUCCI - Return to CAPRI - The magical island where the Pucci dream first started over six decades ago

January 01, 2020

Emilio Pucci returns to Capri, the magical island where the Pucci dream first started over six decades ago. A boutique on the glittering Via Camerelle.

No place crystalizes so clearly the unmistakable essence of the Pucci brand as the island of Capri. Via Camerelle, the famous cobblestoned street in the heart of the island’s chic shopping and nightlife, is where the Marchese Emilio Pucci himself used to stroll with a gang of glamorous, jet-setting women. In Marina Piccola, the Marchese opened the doors to his very first boutique, La Canzone del Mare in 1951. For 30 years the shop remained an iconic, requisite destination for worldly women seeking joyful, sophisticated and effortless clothing, while the nascent brand itself ushered in the beginning of Italy’s brilliant post-war fashion boom.

CARTHUSIA - THE PERFUMES OF CAPRI - 1948 - 2018

January 01, 2020

Legend recounts that in 1380, the father prior of the Carthusian Monastery of St. James, taken by surprise by the news of Queen Joan of Anjou coming to Capri, picked a bouquet of the most beautiful flowers of the island; these remained in the same water for three days and, as he went to throw them away, the prior noticed that it had acquired a mysterious fragrance unknown to him. So he turned to the friar specialized in alchemy, who traced the origin of the scent to the "Garofilium Silvestre Caprese".

That water was the first perfume of Capri.

Today Carthusia has put into practice its centuries-old knowledge in order to develop a culture of perfume unique in the world. Over the years, it has refined its mastery about the olfactory sense, refining and structuring its comprehension of essences, in order to grant to those who choose its fragrances the purest and most intense emotions. Nowadays, as in the past, all stages of production are carried out by hands to guarantee the accurate application of the natural methods involved and the precious care of traditional craftsmanship.

PUTTINI - CAPRI - Exclusive Designer of Jewelry for Lovers of Beauty

January 01, 2020

Angela Puttini Jewelry was founded by Angela Puttini, whose family has lived on Capri for generations.

"Speaking with Antonella Puttini is regenerating. There's a sunniness about her and about the light, joyful way she talks. Her jewels are just as precious and emotional.
The sea and sun of Capri are definitely part of her soul, and the enthusiasm and vitality of her personality are part of the essence of her creations. Antonella began working with jewelry at the end of the 1980s with her mother Angela. The jewelry shop was opened by chance, almost an act of fate. But soon she became frustrated with selling others' creations.
Surrounded by the precious and semi-precious stones she loved, she began to mix them together and to dream of making earrings, necklaces, pendants, and bracelets. This is how her one-off pieces came about. Sometimes they have inserts from old pieces otherwise doomed to oblivion. Other pieces feature the typical stones of her island: coral, pearls, lava stone along with gold, bronze, and silver.

The collections came one after the other and they all take inspiration from legends and myths from Caprese culture. They are created from the finest quality materials and by following the most refined goldsmithing techniques. Cameos are a common theme either with antique looks or engraved with Antonella's designs.
In her romantic boutique with its cupola ceiling, jewels are displayed in Empire-style windows and cases along the wall with flaming red details. This warm Caprese boutique gives off a sense of culture, classicism, and feeling."

Giorgio Galardo is the baker and together with his family – brother Andrea, father Salvatore and mother Giovanna – he runs La Bottega del Pane. “The bakery was set up in 1914 by my great-grandfather after he came back from a journey to Argentina to seek his fortune. I learned all the secrets of the trade when I was a boy, thanks to my grandfather and father: the best teachers. Now Andrea and I are the fourth generation to run the company,” he declares proudly, his words accompanied by the incessant kneading of the dough mixer, while the smell of freshly baked bread fills the room. The night is sacrificed to his work .” So what is his greatest satisfaction? “Saying the sweetest of goodbyes to the night with the goodness of our products. It gives you a really good feeling to see the youngsters’ eyes light up with joy, when they come here early in the morning on their way back from the disco to enjoy hot brioches and freshly baked bread twists.

CANFORA'S SANDAL SHOP - CAPRI - is still located at the start of Via Camerelle - The style of the shop has remained that of a simple artisan’s workshop

January 01, 2020

It was the year 1946, the war had only just ended, and Capri was, once again, inundated with travelers arriving from every corner of the globe: royals, artists, intellectuals, and actors, all of whom shared the same desire to enjoy life like never before. Just a few years later, the economic boom exploded and Capri became the heart of the Dolce Vita and an obligatory port of call for members of the Italian star system.

This said, in the late 1940’s, Capri’s economy was still based almost entirely on fishing and there were only a very few hotels on the island. Opposite the most important of these, the historic Grand Hotel Quisisana, my grandfather, Amedeo Canfora decided to open a sandal shop. A modest little shop, with a workbench on which to make his sandals, walls hung with soles and costume jewelry, and shelves filled with books in which the measurements of the most important regular clients were recorded and carefully conserved.

Within no time at all word reached the mainland that Canfora’s sandals were the finest of all those made on the island of Capri: being both the most beautiful and durable. Soraya, Princess Margaret, Maria Callas, and Grace Kelly were among the first famous clients to purchase a pair of Canfora’s made-to-measure sandals…. And yet, whether she was a crowned princess or a modest maid, my Grandfather treated all his customers with the very same discretion and devotion.

My grandfather transmitted both his passion and skill to his children, Angela, Rita and Michele (my father). They then taught the art of sandal making to my brother Fabrizio and to me, Costanzo. When not making sandals, I am responsible for the company’s e-commerce.

We have fun.

Most people on Capri become familiar with the name, Cerio, without realizing it. There is the Piazzetta Cerio, not to be confused with Piazza Edwin Cerio, and via Ignazio Cerio. Then the Centro Cerio, in the Palazzo Cerio, with the Cerio Museum and Archives – and now, the new sports complex, Campi di Cerio in Anacapri .
